What is it, exactly?
A genuine UK geographic landline that terminates on an eSIM in the phone you already have. It is not call forwarding, not a divert, and not an app that re-routes the call.
Why would a family use it?
From prison, a landline is cheaper per minute than a mobile. The person inside pays. The useful promise is more talk from the same capped account — not that you save £20.
Will every prison accept the number?
No. HMPPS material says diversion and re-routing services are not permitted. RingYard is not those things, but a prison can still refuse a number. Never assume approval.
What if the prison rejects it?
Pause or refund. Do not keep paying while the number cannot be used. Tell us what the prison said so we can classify the failure.
Compatibility and setup
The phone needs to accept an eSIM. Confirm that before you pay. After install, make a test inbound call. Then send the landline number inside and ask them to put it on the PIN list.
Caller ID and SMS
People calling you see the landline. SMS behaviour depends on the network and the phone. Do not treat it as a guaranteed texting service.
Cancellation and portability
£20 a month. Stop any time. If you need to keep the number, ask about porting before you cancel. Do not assume the number moves automatically.
Is this official?
No. prisoncheck is independent. RingYard is a separate paid product, labeled Partner wherever it appears. Buying it is never required to use prisoncheck.
